Romashkin Square

Romashkin Square is a cozy green spot in the Minsk-Mir district, named in honor of Hero of the Soviet Union Timofey Romashkin. At the center of the square stands a monument commemorating his heroic deed. On January 8, 1954, there was an attempted hijacking aboard a Li-2 aircraft on the Tallinn-Minsk-Leningrad flight. Flight engineer Timofey Romashkin showed exceptional courage when, noticing the armed criminals, he attempted to prevent the hijacking. Despite the danger, he rushed at one of the attackers and was severely injured. Thanks to his bravery and the actions of other crew members, the criminals were apprehended, and the plane successfully returned to Tallinn. Romashkin later died in the hospital from his wounds, and he was posthumously awarded the title of Hero of the Soviet Union. Romashkin Square is surrounded by lush greenery and well-maintained pathways, creating a peaceful atmosphere. It is the perfect place for walks and quiet relaxation, where one can enjoy the tranquility and beauty of nature, away from the hustle and bustle of the city.
