Friendship of Peoples Park is one of the largest parks in Minsk, located in the Soviet district of the capital. This landscape park, covering 70 hectares, was created in 1978 on the site of the former Minsk Experimental Swamp Station and is a popular recreation spot for locals and tourists.
History of the Park
The history of the park dates back to the early 20th century, when the Komarov Swamp was located here. In 1911, the Minsk Experimental Swamp Station was founded, which focused on land reclamation and agricultural research. For many years, the station worked on draining the Komarov Swamp, which improved agricultural land and prepared the area for subsequent construction projects. The drainage process began in 1925, and soon, tram tracks were laid in the area. In 1930, the station was transformed into the All-Union Institute of Swamp Management, continuing research in land reclamation and the creation of agricultural areas on swamps. However, in the 1960s, thanks to successful land reclamation efforts, the Komarov Swamp was drained, and the area began to be actively developed. With the closure of the Minsk Experimental Swamp Station in 1978, a decision was made to transform the area into a public park. That same year, work began on the planning of the future park, and soon, the Park of Friendship of Peoples was established. Since its opening in 1978, the Park of Friendship of Peoples has become a favorite place for residents to relax.
