Reconstruction of Gorky Park in Minsk: What will appear on the site of the demolished "Fairy Tale Castle" cafe

November 18, 2024,4 min. to read

In the center of Minsk, on the territory of the Central Children's Park named after M. Gorky, large-scale reconstruction has begun. One of the first steps was the demolition of the famous café "Fairy Tale Castle," which stood by the pond for 17 years but didn't survive the consequences of the coronavirus pandemic. In place of the old café, a new recreation area and improvements to the park's infrastructure are planned.

New Concept of Gorky Park

As reported by Gleb Kuznetsov, the head of Gorky Park, a cozy "quiet rest" area will appear on the site of the demolished café. This space will be designed with wooden decking on stilts, allowing visitors to enjoy close contact with the water. Additionally, plans include improvements to the surrounding area around the inner reservoir.

Trade Pavilions and Mini-Cafes in a Unified Style

As part of the reconstruction, 27 new trade pavilions and mini-cafes will appear throughout the park, including along the embankment. All of these objects will be designed in a unified architectural style, giving the park a harmonious and modern look. These pavilions will not only serve as places for shopping and relaxation but will also be an essential part of the updated infrastructure, attracting even more visitors.

Replacement of Engineering Networks and Lighting

The reconstruction project also includes the replacement of outdated engineering networks and the partial modernization of the lighting system. All park upgrades are being carried out with respect for its historical value, as Gorky Park is a cultural heritage site of Belarus. The appearance of the new pavilions and structures was approved by the Ministry of Culture and the Architecture and Urban Planning Committee of the Minsk City Executive Committee.

New Recreation Areas and Playground

One of the significant elements of the park's renovation will be the creation of additional recreation areas and a new playground. This will make the park even more attractive to families with children and provide a comfortable space for all visitors.

When will the reconstruction be completed?

The reconstruction of Gorky Park, including all the mentioned changes, is expected to be completed before the start of the new attraction season, which typically opens at the end of April. This will allow residents and tourists to enjoy the updated space in the spring of 2025, making it even more convenient and modern.

History of Gorky Park

Gorky Park in Minsk was founded in 1805 by the city's first governor and was originally called the Governor's Garden. Today, it is one of the largest and most famous parks in the country, covering an area of 28 hectares. The park continues to be an important cultural and tourist landmark in Minsk, attracting both locals and visitors. Thus, the demolition of the "Fairy Tale Castle" café is only part of a broader transformation of Gorky Park. It is expected that the new concept, focused on improving infrastructure and creating cozy relaxation areas, will make the park even more attractive to visitors year-round.
