New Overpass in Minsk: Faster Access to Zhadanovichi & Less Traffic

New Overpass in Minsk: Faster Access to Zhadanovichi & Less Traffic

March 4,6 min. to read

In Minsk, a new overpass will soon appear that will connect Kolesnikova Street and Ratomskaya Street. This long-awaited project promises to improve the traffic situation in the capital and make trips to the Zhadanovichi Trading House faster and more convenient. This article explains how the project will be implemented and what benefits it will bring to the residents.

Why is the new overpass so important for Minsk?

Traffic problems in Minsk have long been a headache for its residents. Inhabitants of the western districts, such as Dombrovka and Masyukovshchina, regularly face the necessity of taking the MKAD (Minsk Ring Road) to reach the Zhadanovichi area, Timiryazev Street, or the Avenue of the Victors. This creates extra burden on the ring road and increases travel time. The new overpass will serve as an alternative route that will allow residents to avoid the MKAD and move around the city more quickly. As noted by the director of "Minskinzproekt," Alexey Govorko, the project has long been overdue: «Thanks to it, there will be no need to leave the western quarters via the MKAD in order to reach the Zhadanovichi district. Traffic will move along local routes.»

Where will the overpass appear, and how will it be designed?

The new bridge will connect Kolesnikova Street and Ratomskaya Street, passing near the Zhadanovichi Trading House. Specialists are currently considering several construction options, and pre-design work is already in full swing. The project was discussed on March 3, 2025, under the leadership of the chairman of the Minsk City Executive Committee, Vladimir Kukharev. Special attention is being paid to technical details:
  • Railway. An existing railway line will run beneath the proposed overpass, and its operation cannot be interrupted. Therefore, the bridge will be designed so that railway traffic can continue to operate in a two-track mode without stops.
  • Local Geology. The high groundwater level is taken into account to avoid future flooding.
Alexey Govorko emphasized: «We must take into account the railway, which cannot be stopped. This exit must operate in a two-track mode without interruptions – it is strategically important.»

How will the new bridge make life easier for Minsk residents?

The construction of the overpass will bring several benefits immediately:
  1. Faster access to Zhadanovichi. Residents of the western districts will no longer have to take a detour via the MKAD to reach the market or the Zhadanovichi Trading House.
  2. Fewer traffic jams on the MKAD. Reducing the load on the ring road will improve the overall traffic situation.
  3. Convenient access to the center. The new route will simplify trips toward Timiryazev Street and the Avenue of the Victors.
  4. Safety and Comfort. Modern engineering solutions will ensure the reliability of the structure and convenience for drivers.

Part of a larger program: What else is being repaired in Minsk?

The new overpass is not a standalone project, but part of an extensive program to upgrade the capital's transportation infrastructure. According to the director of "Gordorstroy," Sergey Panov, in 2025 the repair of four overpasses has already begun, and work on a fifth along Golodeda Street will soon start. Furthermore, the authorities plan to connect other parts of the city:
  • Korzhenevsky and Chyurlenis Streets via the railway.
  • Serova and Ptashuka.
  • Malinina and Moniushko across the Loshitsa River.
These measures will help create more alternative routes and ease the burden on the main roads.

When can we expect the new overpass?

The exact construction timeline has not yet been announced – the project is in the pre-design stage. However, it is already clear that it will be an important step toward solving Minsk's transportation problems. It is expected that when the final option is chosen, the interests of all parties will be taken into account: residents, workers at the Zhadanovichi market, and consumers.

Useful Tips for Minsk Residents

While the overpass is not yet built, here are a few ideas for avoiding traffic jams:
  • Use Timiryazev or Leshchinsky Streets when traveling toward the center.
  • Check routes in apps like Yandex.Maps to choose less congested roads.
  • If possible, plan your trips outside of peak hours.
Once the new bridge is in place, such maneuvers will become less necessary, but for now, they can save you time.

Conclusion: What Will the New Overpass Deliver?

The overpass between Kolesnikova and Ratomskaya Streets is not just a bridge but a solution that will make life easier for thousands of Minsk residents. Faster access to Zhadanovichi, less time spent in traffic jams, and convenient access to key areas of the city are what the capital can expect once the project is completed. Stay tuned for updates so you don't miss the opening of the new route!
