State Universal Store (GUM) is the largest department store in Minsk, located at 21 Independence Avenue. Opened on November 5, 1951, GUM became not only a shopping platform but also a significant landmark in Minsk and an architectural monument in the style of Stalinist monumental classicism.

Architecture and Interior

The GUM building, designed by architects L. Melegi and R. Gegart, stands out with its compact L-shaped design and reinforced concrete frame. The symmetrically designed façade, oriented towards Independence Avenue, features three arched openings on the first floor, forming the grand entrance. Notable architectural features include large glass openings, intricate decoration with pediments, stucco, and majolica details, creating an impressive exterior. The interiors of the store are equally striking with their variety: you can see stucco details, stained glass, and other elements of classical heritage. The first three floors house the sales areas, connected by a central three-flight staircase and two side staircases, while the fourth floor accommodates administrative offices and a cafeteria open to visitors.

Product Assortment

GUM offers a wide range of goods for the whole family and all occasions. On the first floor, you'll find sections for perfumes, kitchenware, household and grocery products, as well as electronics and currency exchange points. The second level is dedicated to men’s and children's clothing, watches, and souvenirs, while the third floor features "women's" sections, including clothing, lingerie, and jewelry. The department store offers over 120,000 product items, catering to a wide variety of customer needs. Additionally, GUM features a cafeteria and a dining hall where you can relax after shopping.

Facilities and Contact Information

GUM is conveniently located in the center of Minsk and is accessible by public transport. The nearest metro stations are "Kupalovskaya" and "Oktyabrskaya," with several bus routes stopping near the store.

Opening hours:

Monday — Saturday from 9:00 to 21:00, Sunday from 10:00 to 20:00 GUM is not only a place for shopping but also a unique architectural object worth visiting during your stay in Minsk.
