Victory Park in Minsk, also known as the Museum and Park Complex "Victory," is the largest recreational area in the Belarusian capital and one of the most beloved spots for residents. Located in the Central District of Minsk, next to the picturesque Komsoмольskoye Lake, the park spans an impressive 200 hectares, making it the city's largest park. It is bordered by Prospekt Pobediteli and Masherov Avenue, as well as Orlovskaya Street and Starovilensky Tract, ensuring convenient access for visitors from all parts of the city.
The history of Victory Park dates back to 1940, when a decision was made to create an artificial lake to protect Minsk from floods. The construction of the dam on the Svisloch River and the filling of the excavation were completed in 1941, resulting in the creation of Komsoмольskoye Lake, covering 35 hectares. The park was set to open on June 22, 1941, but the outbreak of World War II disrupted the ceremony. Subsequently, in memory of the war events, the park was named "Victory Park."
After the war, the park was restored and modernized several times. In 1985, to commemorate the 40th anniversary of the Victory, a monument "Minsk — Hero City" was erected at the main entrance. In 2005, a large-scale reconstruction of the park began, concluding in 2011. During this renovation, the park's area was expanded to 200 hectares, sports facilities were updated, new bridges were constructed, and the embankments were improved.
Today, Victory Park is a modern multifunctional leisure zone, ideal for various types of recreation. It features bike paths, beaches, playgrounds, outdoor fitness equipment, cafes, and restaurants. A key attraction of the park is the Museum of the Great Patriotic War, which moved to a new building in 2014. The museum's collection includes unique exhibits related to World War II: weapons, equipment, documents, and photographs that reveal the heroic history of the Belarusian people.
The park attracts visitors with its scenic landscapes and unique fountains. The Svisloch River flows through the park, with several islands located along it. Notable is Bird Island, which has become a sanctuary for rare bird species. For visitor convenience, pedestrian paths and bridges have been constructed on the island, allowing guests to enjoy nature in comfort.
Komsoмольskoye Lake offers many opportunities for active recreation. Park guests can take a ride on the "Svisloch" steamboat or the "Kasatka" boat. The park's beaches are equipped with all necessary amenities, including changing cabins, showers, umbrellas, and areas for volleyball and soccer. Additionally, the park regularly hosts cultural and public events, such as traditional May Day rallies and large festivals, including Tanker Day.
Victory Park in Minsk is not just a place for relaxation but also a significant cultural and historical center that preserves the memory of important past events while offering modern conditions for leisure and entertainment for both residents and visitors.
