In Minsk, a fourth metro line may appear, which will significantly expand the transport network of the Belarusian capital. This was announced on March 6, 2025 by Mikhail Rudko, the director of “Minskmetroproject”, who shared the plans with journalists. The new branch, aimed at the “North Waterfront” district, promises to improve connectivity in the city and reduce travel times. Construction is scheduled for 2030.
What is known about the fourth metro line
According to preliminary data, the fourth line of the city metro will include up to 17 stations. It will stretch from the “Pushkinskaya” station to the “Park of the Friendship of the Peoples”, covering districts where the metro is currently absent. The project places a primary emphasis on developing the “North Waterfront” — a rapidly developing residential complex that is becoming an important part of the city’s infrastructure.
Mikhail Rudko noted:
«The fourth line will serve as a connecting link between the existing metro branches. It will not only provide transport accessibility for the residents of the “North Waterfront”, but also reduce travel time around the city by 10–15 minutes».
Currently, three metro lines operate in Minsk: the first has 15 stations, the second 14, and the third currently 7, though this number will soon increase thanks to ongoing construction work.
Technical features and station design
The fourth line will be dual-track, and the tunnels will be constructed using already proven equipment. The station depths vary:
- Transfer nodes will be built at a depth of 20–25 meters to integrate them with the existing lines.
- Regular stations will be located at a depth of 12–16 meters.
The station design promises a combination of minimalism and functionality. Each platform will receive unique decorative elements while maintaining practicality and simplicity.
«We are aiming for a modern style where passenger convenience is paramount. At the same time, each station will have its own distinct charm», Rudko emphasized.
How life in Minsk will change
The fourth metro line will not only improve the transport accessibility of the “North Waterfront”, but also connect Minsk with the suburbs. It will be integrated with railway stops such as “Stolichny” or “Minsk-Southern”, which will facilitate travel for residents of the satellite towns.
Furthermore, the new branch will ease traffic, reduce pollution levels, and improve the comfort of getting around the city. This is especially important for Minsk, which continues to grow and develop.
When construction will begin
The design of the fourth line has already begun, and construction is scheduled to begin in 2030. However, Mikhail Rudko suggests that the work might start a little earlier if preparations are completed on time.
Prospects for the Minsk metro
The development of the metro is a key step towards the sustainable growth of Minsk. The fourth line will become an important link in the transport system, connecting the existing lines and opening up new opportunities for residents. Although the project is still in the development phase, it is already generating significant interest among city residents.
