"Dynamo" Stadium

4 min. to read

National Olympic Stadium "Dynamo" in Minsk is one of the main tourist attractions in Belarus, known for its long-standing contributions to the sports and cultural life of the country. Located on Kirova Street, the stadium has a rich and eventful history. Built in 1934 on the site of an old Jewish cemetery, it has become a symbol of the sporting spirit of Minsk and Belarus as a whole. The stadium has undergone numerous large-scale renovations, enabling it to remain a modern and relevant venue for major competitions. The stadium's original capacity was 34,000 spectators, which was reduced to 22,246 seats after the 2018 renovation. Major renovation work began in 2012, when the Minsk City Executive Committee decided on a full reconstruction of the arena. During these works, the stands were completely updated, new facilities for athletes, referees, and coaches were created, and infrastructure for spectators and media representatives was improved. Following the renovation, the stadium met the IAAF Category One criteria, allowing it to host international athletics competitions. The "Dynamo" Stadium is equipped with everything necessary for both athletics competitions and football matches. The main stadium field, covered with natural grass, measures 105 by 68 meters, meeting UEFA standards for high-level football matches. The athletics area includes 9 running tracks in the main arena and 4 additional tracks in the training area. These surfaces are UV-resistant and can withstand harsh weather conditions, allowing year-round use of the stadium. The stadium’s lighting is provided by four massive 68-meter-high masts with over 400 LED floodlights, allowing for evening events with excellent lighting quality. Modern surveillance systems, sound equipment, and additional lights under the stands’ canopies ensure a comfortable and safe experience for spectators. For visitors’ convenience, there are 58 food outlets around the stadium perimeter. Additionally, comfortable media zones are available, including a media center on the west stand with 200 workstations, storage for photo equipment, a repair workshop, and a small press bar. Thanks to these amenities, the stadium has become a popular venue for covering international sporting events. The modern "Dynamo" stadium is not only a venue for sports events but also a complex with a well-developed infrastructure, including gyms, an underwater filming studio, and a sauna. Its convenient central location in Minsk makes it easily accessible for residents and visitors to the city. "Dynamo" Stadium has already become a symbol of Minsk and a source of pride for all Belarusians. Since its opening, it has hosted numerous major events, including football matches of the 1980 Summer Olympics. Over the years, the stadium has undergone several large-scale renovations, preserving its historical appearance while meeting modern requirements. Today, "Dynamo" remains the main sports arena of the country, accommodating over 22,000 spectators. The stadium is used not only for football matches but also for cultural and entertainment events. The unique combination of historical heritage and modern technology makes the National Olympic Stadium "Dynamo" a special place on the map of Minsk and Belarus, a symbol of athletic excellence that unites generations of fans and athletes.
