Krasnaya Sloboda Park

Krasnaya Sloboda Park

3 min. to read

Krasnaya Sloboda Park in Minsk is a unique place, an oasis of wild nature within the city limits. Located in the floodplain of the Svislach River between Goloded Street and the Minsk Ring Road (MKAD), this park preserves natural diversity, offering visitors the chance to enjoy wooded areas and picturesque views. Historically, the park gets its name from the old village of Krasnaya Sloboda, which has survived to this day. This village, formerly known as Arkhiereyskaya Sloboda, was incorporated into Minsk and is located near Svislochskaya Street. Krasnaya Sloboda is not your typical urban park. It lacks common features such as fountains, benches, and streetlights. Instead, it attracts visitors with its pristine nature and unique views. One of the park’s main attractions is a collection of old Soviet planes and helicopters used by the Belarusian State Aviation Academy as training equipment. Among them, you can see models like the Mi-8, Tu-134, Tu-154, An-2P, Yak-40, and An-24. This site, reminiscent of an aviation graveyard, sparks the interest of aviation and history enthusiasts. As you walk through the park, you can enjoy scenic views of the Svislach River floodplain and its winding course. The elevation drop in this area is about 20 meters, making Krasnaya Sloboda one of the lowest points in Minsk relative to sea level. Paths through the park lead through dense forests and trails that guide you to the river, where you can spot wild ducks, swans, and other birds. Krasnaya Sloboda is perfect for those who enjoy quiet walks, picnics, and nature watching. In the evenings, the park is lively as residents of Chizhovka gather to enjoy barbecues, fishing, and walks with their dogs. In Krasnaya Sloboda Park, the natural flora and fauna are preserved, making it attractive to those who seek refuge from the hustle and bustle of the city. It’s an excellent place for morning walks, where you can hear birds singing and enjoy the dew on the grass. Despite its shortcomings, such as the lack of amenities and the presence of litter, the park remains a unique natural corner in the heart of Minsk, worth visiting at least once.
