The Government of Belarus has summarized the results of 2024 and named the cleanest and best-equipped settlements in the country. The annual competition evaluates cities, towns, and villages based on a variety of criteria: from the quality of roads and the number of green areas to the availability of sports facilities and public restrooms. The winners receive not only an honorary title but also cash prizes from the national budget, which can be used to improve infrastructure. Let's find out which cities and towns became the leaders this year — perhaps yours is among them!
Winners by Categories
First Category: Minsk and Regional Centers
In the group that includes the capital and regional centers, the top honor went to Mogilev. The city scored an impressive 318 points and will receive a prize of 8,000 base units, equivalent to 336,000 rubles. Mogilev, known for its historical attractions and cultural life, has once again proven that it can combine tradition with modern comfort.
Second Category: Cities with a Population of 50,000 or More
Among cities with a population of over 50,000, Novopolotsk (Vitebsk Region) and Kobrin (Brest Region) have been recognized as the best. Both cities will receive 3,000 base units each — 126,000 rubles. Novopolotsk is renowned for its industrial potential, while Kobrin attracts tourists with its historical heritage and cozy atmosphere.
Third Category: Cities and Towns with a Population of 10,000 to 50,000
In this group, the winners were Volozhin (Minsk Region), Bereza, and Zhabinka (both from Brest Region). Each will receive 2,000 base units — 84,000 rubles. Volozhin delights with its picturesque nature, Bereza is proud of its castle, and Zhabinka stands out for its neatness and order.
Fourth Category: Cities and Towns with a Population of Up to 10,000
Among the smaller settlements, Cherikov (Mogilev Region), Beshenkovichi (Vitebsk Region), Myadel (Minsk Region), and Petrikov (Gomel Region) excelled. They will each receive 1,500 base units — 63,000 rubles. These towns have proven that even a modest size does not hinder the creation of comfortable living conditions.
Fifth Category: Villages and Agro-Towns
In the category of rural settlements, the best were Laskovichi and Belovezhsky (Brest Region), Mazolovo and Luzhki (Vitebsk Region), as well as Veremeyki (Mogilev Region). Each will be awarded 800 base units — 33,600 rubles. These villages and agro-towns have become an example of how rural areas can be well-equipped and attractive.
What Does the Victory Bring?
The cash prizes from the national budget will allow the winners to implement new projects: from road repairs to the creation of parks and sports zones. The competition is held annually and motivates local authorities to improve the quality of life for residents. The evaluation includes parameters such as street cleanliness, infrastructure accessibility, and environmental indicators.
How Was It Last Year?
For comparison: in 2023, Brest was the leader among regional centers, while in other categories the winners were Mozyr, Bobruisk, Zhabinka, Malorita, and Hlubokoye. The changing of leaders shows that the competition remains fierce, and cities are striving for continuous development.
Why Is This Important?
Well-equipped cities and towns are not just a beautiful sight, but also provide comfort for residents. Such competitions inspire regions to improve, making Belarus even more attractive both for living and for tourism.
