The reconstruction of the Central Children’s Park named after Maxim Gorky in Minsk is nearing completion. The renovated park, an important part of the city’s cultural heritage, will open its doors to residents and visitors of the capital by May 1, 2025. This was announced by the Head of the City Economy and Energy Department of the Minsk City Executive Committee, Alexander Rakovshchik.

Main Changes in the Park

The reconstruction work, which began in October 2024, is focused on modernizing engineering networks, improving lighting, and creating a comfortable infrastructure. The park will be modernized while preserving its historic appearance, reflecting the architectural styles of the 1930s. The new features include:
  • Unified architectural style: Trade pavilions, mini-cafes, and other structures will feature a design inspired by the wooden slats characteristic of Gorky Park in the last century.
  • New recreational areas: The park will feature family-friendly spaces, including landscaped wooden decks and greenery around the pond.
  • Modern children’s playground: A complex with slides, swings, a sandbox, and other play equipment will be built on Pervomaiskaya Street. The entire area will be monitored by video surveillance.
  • Mini-cafes and trade points: Four stylish mini-cafes connected to utility systems will be located along the Svisloch River embankment. The central park alley will also be enhanced with trade pavilions.

Winter Construction Work

Despite the cold season, specialists from Minskzelenstroy are actively continuing the work. According to company representative Andrei Protsuk, the weather allows them to stay on schedule and complete the project before the new attraction season, which traditionally begins at the end of April.

Historical Heritage

The park's renovation takes into account its status as a site of historical and cultural value in Belarus. During the restoration of the park's main entrance, its historic appearance will be reinstated. Plans also include modernizing the traditional "Santa Claus House" with retro-style wooden elements.

Significance for the City

As one of the main green zones in Minsk, Gorky Park will become an even more comfortable spot for city residents. The city administration emphasizes that under the beautification program, two recreational areas are renovated annually in each district of the capital. The transformed park will not only become a favorite leisure destination for residents but also a vibrant tourist attraction, seamlessly combining historical heritage and modern trends. The grand reopening on May 1 promises to be a significant event for the entire city.
