Reconstruction of the "Moscow" Cinema: 200 People Working on the Site

In the center of Minsk, on Pobediteley Avenue, the reconstruction of one of the city's most iconic cinemas, "Moscow," is in full swing. The large-scale renovation project began this spring, and construction work is now in its final stages. Representatives of GPO "Minskstroy" provided updates on the project's current status.

Facade Transformation

The cinema's facade is undergoing significant changes. The exterior walls are being insulated with mineral wool, which will be covered with cladding made of large-format porcelain tiles. This choice of material promises to give the building a modern and elegant appearance while preserving its architectural identity. The facade finishing varies depending on the side of the building. The front facing Pobediteley Avenue and the side walls will feature ventilated facade, while the rear side will have a "wet facade," more traditional for local architecture.

Interior Works

Interior renovations are progressing with equal intensity. Structural reinforcements, room reconfigurations, and masonry work have been completed. The heating system is nearly installed, and work has begun on installing door units and frames for stained-glass windows. Special attention is being paid to soundproofing the cinema halls: walls and ceilings are being covered with acoustic panels. These works are being carried out in four halls, each with different seating capacities. The largest hall will accommodate 654 people, while the smallest will seat just 48. In addition to the cinema halls, the foyer, cloakroom, ticket lobby, and service areas are being refurbished. The cinema bar will also be updated, becoming a cozy place for viewers to relax before screenings.

Extensive Labor Effort

Around 200 specialists of various professions work on the site daily: plasterers, painters, tilers, locksmiths, electricians, ventilation installers, and low-current technicians. Four aerial lifts are being used to install facade structures.

Surrounding Area

The adjacent area will also be updated. Plans include fountain repairs, the installation of small architectural forms, the creation of a flower garden, and the planting of shrubs. These enhancements will turn the cinema into not just a place for watching movies but also a comfortable space for walks and relaxation.

Awaiting the Opening

The "Moscow" cinema first opened its doors to viewers in 1980. Today, it is undergoing a revival, with work expected to be completed by the end of 2024. If the current pace is maintained, Minsk residents might celebrate the New Year in the renovated cinema, enjoying the first festive film screenings. The reconstruction of "Moscow" is a significant step toward preserving and modernizing Minsk's cultural heritage. Soon, the updated cinema will become another modern attraction for residents and visitors of the capital.
