National Historical Museum of Belarus: Replacing Dreamland by 2026

National Historical Museum of Belarus: Replacing Dreamland by 2026

March 6,5 min. to read

In the Central District of Minsk, on the site of the former amusement park 'Dreamland,' a new cultural object will soon appear — the National Historical Museum of Belarus. For its construction, 6 million Belarusian rubles will be allocated from the republican budget, and the work is planned to be completed by 2026. We tell you what is known about the project, its financing, and the future museum, which promises to become a true landmark of the country.

From 'Dreamland' to the museum: what was there before?

The site chosen for the construction of the museum is located in a picturesque part of Minsk — between Pobediteley Avenue, Orlovskaya Street, and the Svisloch River. Previously, the amusement park 'Dreamland' operated here, delighting residents and guests of the capital with attractions. However, in July 2023, it became known about the liquidation of the park: the owner lost interest in it, and in November of the same year, the building was demolished. Now, a new story will begin on this site — the construction of the museum and the Park of National Unity. The decision to build the National Historical Museum on this territory was announced in the fall of 2024, and in February 2025, President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko signed a decree officially launching the project.

How much money will be spent and where will it come from?

According to the government decree published on the National Legal Portal, the total budget for the construction will be 6 million Belarusian rubles. This amount includes not only the construction of the building itself but also design and survey work. The financing will be entirely covered by the republican budget and will be carried out within the framework of the State Investment Program for 2025.
  • Who is responsible for the money? The Ministry of Economy is tasked with including the museum in the list of priority objects, and the Ministry of Finance is to ensure the allocation of funds.
  • When will construction begin? Design will start soon, and the first construction works are planned for the beginning of 2025.
The Chairman of the Minsk City Executive Committee, Vladimir Kukharev, emphasized: "We will strictly monitor the deadlines and quality. The museum must be ready by 2026 and become the pride of Minsk."

What will the National Historical Museum be like?

The new museum is not just a building, but a symbol of Belarusian statehood. Its architecture is already generating interest: the layout replicates the contour of the map of Belarus, emphasizing national identity. The museum's exposition will cover the thousand-year history of Belarusian lands — from ancient times to the present day. The main goal of the project, as noted by Alexander Lukashenko, is to show the path of the Belarusian people to independence and to create an object that future generations will be proud of. "The museum should amaze — both with its appearance and its content," stated the head of state. Here is what is known about the museum:
  • Location: Central District of Minsk, between Pobediteley Avenue, Orlovskaya Street, and the Svisloch River.
  • Design: Building in the shape of the map of Belarus.
  • Purpose: Preservation and popularization of the country's history.
  • Completion date: 2026.

Park of National Unity: a bonus to the museum

On the adjacent territory, another object will appear — the Park of National Unity. It will become part of the water-green diameter of Minsk, connecting the museum with the natural area along the Svisloch River. The park will be created for the recreation of citizens and tourists, to complement the cultural significance of the museum with green space.

Why is this important?

The construction of the National Historical Museum of Belarus for 6 million rubles is not only a major infrastructure project but also a step towards preserving national heritage. The museum will become a point of attraction for tourists, an educational center for youth, and an adornment of the capital. By 2026, Minsk will receive a modern complex that will unite history, architecture, and nature.
