In the capital of Belarus, active beautification of urban areas continues. Within the framework of the Year of Beautification declared by the President of Belarus, 18 new recreation areas are planned to be created in Minsk. This was reported by the Chairman of the Minsk City Executive Committee, Vladimir Kukharev, on the air of the Belarus 1 TV channel.

Massive Capital Beautification

"Much has already been done in terms of beautification, but we cannot rest on our laurels. The decision made by the Head of State that 2025 will be the Year of Beautification obliges us to work even more intensively in this direction," emphasized the Chairman of the Minsk City Executive Committee. According to Vladimir Kukharev, the city leadership understands the importance of creating comfortable places for citizens to relax. The President of Belarus also instructed local authorities to fine‑tune existing areas and create comfortable conditions for Minsk residents.

What Do the New Recreation Areas Entail?

The new recreation areas are green spaces with modern amenities, children’s and sports playgrounds, comfortable benches, and other elements of urban infrastructure. Such spaces allow residents of nearby microdistricts to spend time outdoors, enjoy nature, without having to travel far beyond their neighborhood. At present, there are 63 such areas operating in Minsk. Taking into account the planned 18 new sites, by the end of the year their number will reach 81.

Distribution by City Districts

According to information announced by the Head of the Department of Urban Economy and Energy, Alexander Rakovshchik, at the session of the Minsk City Executive Committee on January 30, the new recreation areas will be evenly distributed across all administrative districts of Minsk. Two areas are planned to be arranged in each of the city’s nine districts.

Special Attention to Water Bodies

In addition to creating new recreation areas, city authorities are paying special attention to the improvement of existing natural areas, in particular water bodies. Vladimir Kukharev spoke about the reconstruction of the Slepian Water System, which he called "a unique object and the pearl of the city." The works to put this system in order are already in the final stages. Work is also underway to beautify the floodplains of the Loshitsa and Myszka rivers. District administrations are making significant efforts to ensure that the banks of these watercourses are in proper condition and become attractive places for recreation.

Comprehensive Approach to Beautification

The draft decision of the Minsk City Executive Committee on carrying out activities within the framework of the Year of Beautification covers a wide range of issues:
  • Planting shrubs, flowers, and trees
  • Repairing the street and road network
  • Improving courtyard territories, including sidewalks and driveways
  • Creating new recreation areas
  • Installing bike paths
  • Setting up modern lighting
It is important to note that beautification works in Minsk involve not only business entities but also active involvement of the public. "We are working to ensure that every corner of Minsk, every patch of the city, every green area is brought to perfection," said Vladimir Kukharev, emphasizing the city authorities’ desire to create a comfortable and aesthetically pleasing urban environment for all residents of the capital. Thus, 2025 promises to become an important milestone in the development of recreation infrastructure and the beautification of Minsk, contributing to the improvement of citizens’ quality of life and the attractiveness of the Belarusian capital.
