Starting December 1, one of Russia’s most famous ice rinks — the GUM Skating Rink on Red Square — has opened in the capital. This year the venue is celebrating its 20th anniversary season and will welcome guests until March 1, 2026.
Design in the style of Russian folk crafts
The main feature of the season is the rink’s design, executed in the style of Dymkovo toys. Bright patterns and traditional motifs of this folk craft create a festive atmosphere and give the venue a recognizable character.
Opening hours and visiting conditions
Main operating parameters of the rink:
- Opening hours: daily from 09:00 to 23:30
- Session duration: 60 minutes
- Last entry to the ice: 22:30
- Technical breaks: 30 minutes between sessions
Admission prices and special offers
Ticket prices vary depending on the visit period.
Particular attention should be paid to free sessions: from December 1 to 25 and from January 12 to March 1 on weekdays from 09:00 to 14:30 admission is free. Please note that even free tickets must be collected at the rink’s ticket offices on the day of the visit.
Rates for paid sessions:
- Weekdays (15:00–23:30): from 900 to 1,100 rubles
- Weekends (09:00–23:30): 1,000–1,100 rubles
- Skate rental: fixed price of 650 rubles
Grand opening with star participation
The opening ceremony of the anniversary season featured outstanding figure skaters. World champions in ice dance Victoria Sinitsina and Nikita Katsalapov took to the ice, as well as Lithuanian dancers Povilas Vanagas and Margarita Drobiazko. The audience saw an excerpt from the ice show “Cinderella” produced by Olympic champion Tatiana Navka.
Among the honored guests of the ceremony were TV host Elena Malysheva, actress Anna Peskova, Serbian actor Miloš Biković, composer Arkady Ukupnik, and legendary hockey player Vladislav Tretiak.
Free training sessions for amateurs
The sports program includes:
- Hockey training on Saturdays (starting December 6) — classes are conducted by instructors of the “Red Machine” program of the Russian Ice Hockey Federation
- Figure skating lessons on Sundays (starting December 7) — master classes from Anastasia Grebenkina’s school
Registration for free classes opens on the official website six days before each event.
Popularity of ice rinks among winter entertainment
According to a survey by the marketplace “Vyberu.ru”, ice skating remains Russians’ favorite winter activity — 59% of respondents chose it. Visitors are willing to spend between 300 and 1,500 rubles per session, and 28% of respondents plan not only to skate but also to take photos at the rink.
