Final Preparations for Moscow’s Fountains: Ready for the Summer Season!

April 2,4 min. to read

In Moscow, the final stage of preparing the fountains for the opening of the summer season, traditionally scheduled for the end of April, has begun. This was announced by the Deputy Mayor for Housing and Urban Utilities and Improvement, Petr Biryukov. Work on deconservation and cleaning of the structures has already started so that Muscovites and visitors to the city can enjoy the beauty of the fountains during the warm season.

Fountains – the Capital’s Calling Card

Petr Biryukov noted that the fountains have long become one of Moscow's symbols. The city features a wide variety of them:
  • traditional fountains, familiar to everyone;
  • "dry" fountains, where water bursts straight from the ground;
  • floating structures, decorating water bodies;
  • musical and light-dynamic fountains, creating a true show.
"Fountains are not only a decoration for the city but also complex engineering structures that require careful maintenance," emphasized the deputy mayor. Season preparation is a multi-stage process that begins long before the launch.

Stages of Fountain Preparation

Autumn-Winter Period

After the season ends in the fall, the fountains are conserved to protect them from frost. During this time, specialists:
  • check underground structures and collectors;
  • conduct diagnostics of all systems.
In winter, routine maintenance continues:
  • repair of electromechanical equipment and underwater lighting;
  • upgrading of control and automation systems;
  • inspection of hydraulics, pumps, filters, and jet-forming elements;
  • maintenance of ventilation and heating in the pump station premises.

The Final Stage in Spring

With the arrival of consistently warm weather, deconservation begins. This process includes:
  1. Washing the structures using a special shampoo to remove winter contaminants.
  2. Adjusting the nozzles for perfect jet performance.
  3. Checking the external lighting and, if necessary, repairing the cladding of the basins and parapets.
All these measures guarantee that the fountains will operate flawlessly throughout the season.

Special Attention – Landmark Objects

For example, in the Gorky Park, the preparation of the light and music fountain has already begun. Specialists are cleaning the basins, parapets, and external communications, as well as inspecting the structures before the launch. This fountain is one of the most popular in Moscow, and its opening always attracts many visitors.

Preparing the City for Summer

In addition to the fountains, the capital is actively preparing other facilities for the season:
  • 270 ponds: employees of the State Unitary Enterprise "Mosvodostok" manually remove leaves, dead branches, and debris from the banks;
  • 640 thousand lighting elements: lanterns, light fixtures, and other devices will be washed and painted as part of a month-long beautification initiative.
These works improve not only the city's appearance but also the safety of its residents.

Why Is This Important?

Fountains are a key element of Moscow's urban improvement. They create a comfortable environment for relaxation and attract tourists. As Biryukov noted, the city’s public utilities specialists do everything possible to ensure that the fountains are pleasing to the eye and operate impeccably throughout the season. The final stage of preparing the fountains in Moscow is not just a technical task but a commitment to the beauty and coziness of the capital. Very soon, residents and visitors will be able to admire their freshness and bright colors. Follow the news so you don't miss the opening of the season!
