Stepanovsky Garden

Stepanovsky Garden is a cozy and picturesque square in the center of Minsk, located at the intersection of Kiselev and Starovilenskaya Streets. This green corner got its name in honor of the burgher Ivan Stepanov, who in the late 19th century planted a beautiful garden here with apple trees, pear trees, linden trees, and vibrant flower beds. Initially, the garden's paths were covered with red brick chips, giving it a special charm. The historical significance of the garden is highlighted by a monument to the great Ukrainian poet Taras Shevchenko, installed here in 2002 to mark the 185th anniversary of his birth. The monument is a gift from the Ukrainian people and is located next to the Ukrainian Embassy, a building with historical importance as it was formerly a residential house with a pharmacy on the ground floor. Despite the damage inflicted on the garden during the Great Patriotic War, several trees planted by Stepanov have survived to this day. In the post-war years, the garden became a favorite meeting place for Minsk youth, where dances were held to the sound of the accordion. Today, Stepanovsky Garden is a well-maintained and cozy corner equipped with wrought-iron benches and beautiful lanterns adorned with elegant decor. In 2007, the garden officially received its name, becoming "Stepanovsky Garden." This square is a wonderful place for walks and relaxation, offering residents and visitors a chance to enjoy the shade of trees and the atmosphere of historic Minsk.
