The Chelyuskincev Culture and Recreation Park in Minsk is one of the capital's most beloved destinations for leisure and entertainment. Established between 1928 and 1932 on the grounds of the former Komarovsky Forest, this historic park spans 78 hectares and serves as both a cultural landmark and a natural retreat in the heart of Belarus.
After opening in 1932, the park was named in honor of the Chelyuskin expedition participants, whose steamship sank in 1934 while attempting to navigate the Northern Sea Route. Since then, the park has carried the name "Chelyuskincev," becoming a central hub for relaxation and amusement, especially following the post-war era. In 1952, the park opened the "Rainbow" Summer Cinema, a popular venue for open-air movie screenings.
A significant reconstruction in 1974 saw the addition of modern attractions, including the iconic "Super-8" roller coaster, which gained fame through the Belarusian band Leprikonsy’s hit song. The roller coaster, a beloved symbol for generations, was eventually dismantled in 2009 and replaced by a new ride, "Catal Mountain."
Today, the park boasts 16 attractions, including a 28-meter-high Ferris wheel, installed in 2010. It is also known for its go-kart tracks, rope courses, dance areas, and extensive children's play zones. The park hosts regular cultural and sports events, drawing both locals and tourists alike. With over 22,000 trees, the park is a verdant oasis, offering both scenic beauty and ecological value. The southern area features a mix of deciduous trees, such as maples and lindens, while the northern section is dominated by pine trees. Decorative trees lining the walkways create a tranquil atmosphere for strolling and relaxation.
Conveniently located near the Chelyuskincev Park metro station and Minsk's main avenue, the park is easily accessible. It is also adjacent to the Botanical Gardens and the Children's Railway, providing a wide range of activities for the entire family. The park features cafes and kiosks offering Belarusian delicacies like draniki and bliny, adding a culinary touch to your visit.
The park is thoughtfully divided into functional zones, catering to different interests: serene areas with benches for quiet relaxation, sports facilities, children’s playgrounds, and thrilling rides for adventure seekers. The park has undergone several renovations, with the most recent occurring between 2003 and 2010, during which new attractions were added and the infrastructure was modernized.
