On July 2, 2022, a solemn unveiling of the monument "Living Memory of Grateful Generations" took place in Minsk, at Victory Park. This monument has become a symbol of respect for the feats of the heroes of the Great Patriotic War. Its unique design includes a front-line triangle symbolizing the heroic past, and a bronze tree representing life and the continuation of generations.
Unique characteristics of the memorial sign
One of the key features of this monument is the use of Soviet coins collected by more than 100,000 Belarusian families. These coins were brought by veterans, their children, and grandchildren, emphasizing the connection between generations and linking modern Belarusians to their heroic ancestors. The process of melting the coins took place at the Sculpture Factory, where 131,000 coins were cast into the tree trunk, and the remaining ingots will be stored at the Museum of the History of the Great Patriotic War in Minsk and serve as the foundation for similar monuments in Brest and Moscow.
The project and its initiators
The initiative to create the monument came from the team of the Alexey Talay Charitable Foundation. At the opening ceremony, Alexey Talay emphasized that the successful implementation of this large-scale project was made possible by the unity of the Belarusian people. He urged everyone to remember those who gave their lives in defense of the Motherland and highlighted the importance of resilience in modern times, adding that Belarusians are proud of their heritage and ready to preserve it.
The sculptor of the monument, People’s Artist of Belarus Vladimir Slobodchikov, also shared his thoughts, noting that he is the son of a Great Patriotic War veteran. He stressed that the memory of the war should be passed on to future generations, and the name of the monument "Living Memory of Grateful Generations" accurately reflects this idea. The sculptor expressed hope that his work would inspire young people to think about the importance of historical memory and heritage.
