In the very heart of Minsk, near the "Oktyabr" cinema, stands one of the most beloved and popular sculptures of the capital — the "Postman." This bronze figure, created by talented sculptors Vladimir Zbanov and Evgeny Kolchev with the participation of architect Yuri Gradov, was unveiled on September 9, 2005, in honor of the City Day. It was a gift from the "Iz ruk v ruki" publishing group and undoubtedly adorned the city with its unique style and warmth.
Creation History
The process of creating the sculpture was quite complex and labor-intensive. The total weight of the composition is about 700 kilograms, and more than one hundred parts were cast to make it. This unique sculpture includes many small elements, making it even more impressive. One of the most technically challenging aspects of the work was the creation of replicas of the issues of the newspapers "Vecherny Minsk" and "Minsk Courier," which the postman holds in his bag.
Sculpture Opening
The opening ceremony of the sculpture was memorable for its unusual presentation. When the cover was removed, the audience saw not one, but three postmen, one of whom, holding the "Iz ruk v ruki" newspaper and with a loyal bicycle beside him, became the central element of the composition. The other two "postmen," who turned out to be actors dressed as bronze figures, unexpectedly began to ride their bicycles and distribute fresh copies of the newspaper to passersby, eliciting smiles and surprise from the audience.
Symbolism of the Place
The "Postman" sculpture is located in a symbolic place: nearby are key press buildings — the House of Press and the Printing House. This makes the composition particularly relevant, emphasizing the importance of print media and communication with it.
Popularity and Significance
Today, the "Postman" sculpture is a constant object for photo sessions for both locals and tourists. Many people consider it their duty to take a photo next to this bronze figure, capturing memories of their trip to Minsk. The bronze postman, reading a newspaper, embodies kindness and friendliness, becoming a symbol of the capital.
If you find yourself in Minsk, don’t miss the chance to stop by the "Oktyabr" cinema and enjoy this wonderful piece of art. The "Postman" sculpture is not just a monument; it is part of the city's history and an important element of its cultural heritage.
